About HeatingCost

HeatingCost is an independent site published from Vermont, where heating is a third of the household budget and the oil-versus-heat-pump argument runs from October to April. It exists to answer one question with real numbers: what does a unit of heat actually cost, by fuel, in your state, this week.

All prices are published U.S. government data, refreshed automatically. The site earns money from advertising and from referral fees when readers request fuel delivery or heating equipment quotes through links on the site. Those fees never change which fuel the calculator ranks cheapest; the math is on the methodology page and the inputs are editable.
